I have laid it out well and I am ready in the early morning. Inside the uficcio, each day, my spine is straight and my feet are on the ground. I build my body from the floor up and I let the quadrants contain me. The squares of my suiting. The broad sheets of blank paper loaded into the typewriter. The messages that move through me, made real in the squid ink black. At lunch, I step into the city’s square with my sandwich of pink prosciutto and salted butter. After siesta, each punch in my time card becomes a portal. When the day is complete, so am I. I take my time on the way back, my heels clicking on cobblestone. Picking up parcels. Peering into windows. Winding my way through a world of my making. I take dictation so that my life can take its own direction.
